It was brought to my attention today that a registered sex offender has been preaching at a Dallas Southern Baptist church, Adat Shalom Messianic Church. I called the church to confirm that this registered sex offender, Chad Hutchins, is the same person listed on their website as preaching/teaching from time to time.
I confirmed through a Texas DPS registry search that Chad Hutchins is on the list. He was sentenced in a federal case in 2008 for possession of child sexual abuse images.
When I called the church, lead pastor Robin Rose answered. At the time I was not recording the call. I told him I was calling to confirm that my information was correct about Chad Hutchins and that this was the same person listed in the sermon notes portion of the church website. The phone call lasted about 25 minutes. After a few minutes in, I began recording the call as Pastor Rose had a lot to say, and I wanted to document this discussion. Robin Rose confirmed that his church is a Southern Baptist church, and that Chad Hutchins is a registered sex offender who preaches/teaches from “time to time.” He stated that the SBC has been made aware, and that the guy “who is in charge of ethics” for the SBC has been made aware as well. I asked the name of this guy but Rose did not know the name at the time.
I think it’s important for people to be made aware and choose to do with that information what they will as to their attendance at church or other organizational events that elevate sex offenders to positions of trust.
The light of truth and knowledge is our greatest tool to protect kids and vulnerable adults.
Oh boy….this ‘pastor’ has a LOT to learn about sex offenders. Every point he tried to make was appalling….his only goal was to assert that Chad has ‘changed’….not that he could be putting innocent children at risk. It’s always sad after the fact, when people wonder what could have been done to prevent abuse. How about not platforming a registered sex offender as a teacher in your church? It’s the height of irresponsibility and negligence.Why take that chance if ONE child is protected?
Also, child pornography is pedophilia. Chad Hutchins was getting sexual gratification off of the sexual torture of CHILDREN. Rose tried to minimize the offense…calling it ‘sin’ or ‘a mistake’….No Pastor Rose, it’s a crime. A crime that yes, Chad will have to live with for the rest of his life. That IS the consequence of viewing child sexual abuse material that has REAL children being harmed.
This whole defense of Chad Hutchins was a dumpster fire. I hope this pastor gets educated on child sex abuse & the recidivism rates of offenders. Otherwise he could possibly be dealing with a bigger issue down the road.
