Unraveling the Untruths: Davey Blackburn’s Puzzling Perjury in the Amanda Blackburn Murder Bench Trial

I now have the court documents from the case against Larry Jo Taylor, Jr. in the murder of Amanda Blackburn, which is now 7 1/2 years worth of documents. I uploaded one of the files that contains the September 2022 bench trial transcript. In it, Davey Blackburn testifies on the stand. The new information that has emerged, that we had not heard before, is his testimony about the ministry he founded, Nothing is Wasted. Davey was questioned by the prosecution about when he founded this ministry. He answered, “2019.”

He registered his ministry (business), Nothing is Wasted Serendipity, LLC, with the state of Indiana on February 1, 2016, only 2 1/2 months after Amanda was murdered.

Even before that registration with the state, on November 13, 2015, someone on Davey’s behalf at Newspring Church in South Carolina, registered the domain, nothingiswasted.net. This was 2 days after his wife Amanda died. Davey worked at Newspring Church as a youth pastor prior to moving to Indianapolis in 2012 and founding Resonate Church. Newspring was founded by Perry Noble. Noble was fired in July 2016 due to issues with alcoholism and his marriage, according to a source close to the church, as reported by The Christian Post. Perry Noble spoke at Amanda Blackburn’s funeral on Sunday, November 15, 2015.

Davey live tweeted #nothingiswasted during Amanda’s funeral.

On the Wayback Machine, a capture from November 15, 2015 shows that nothingiswasted.net redirected to Davey’s church, Resonate Church. I remember at the time checking this site myself and saw that it redirected to his church.

.

Davey published his first Nothing is Wasted blog post on May 17, 2016. On August 24, 2016, he posted a photo of his son Weston at Amanda’s graveside. Her headstone was engraved with Nothing is Wasted. On January 3, 2017, he posted that he was writing the last chapter of his book, Nothing is Wasted. He launched his Nothing is Wasted podcast on May 26, 2017. Nothing is Wasted is a central theme used throughout his online postings and ministry beginning immediately after Amanda’s murder.

On January 31, 2016, Davey posted a photo expressing gratitude to his staff for creating a “green room” for him with all his favorite things and signs prior to preaching. Davey’s church was using a middle school as their meeting place on Sundays. Resonate Church never had its own church building. The most prominent sign in the green room reads, “Nothing is Wasted.”

On March 18, 2018, Davey and his new wife Kristi registered the website nothingiswasted.com which they still use today.

In addition to Davey’s testimony in the bench trial transcripts, I will point out testimony by the first Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Indianapolis Fire Department, who arrived at the Blackburn home after Davey’s 911 call, Scott Floyd. He testified that Davey Blackburn was outside at the end of the driveway “with blood on his arms and hands,” when they arrived at the home. He stated that Davey was “really calm at the time.” Mr. Floyd said that Davey wasn’t sure what had happened to his wife Amanda, only that she was on the floor, and he could not wake her up.

.

Mr. Floyd testified further that when he entered the home he saw Amanda lying on the floor with blood on her head, and he saw “brain matter” about 5 to 6 feet away from her body. It was at this point that Floyd, noticing the questionable circumstances, notified the lieutenant that the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) should be notified.

Davey testified that he had arrived home from the gym [at approximately 7:30 am] and continued his phone call with his friend Kenneth Wagner in the driveway, getting out at times, walking around his driveway and peeking in the front door window to check if baby Weston was awake yet. He said he finished his call and entered his home at 8:10 am and found Amanda lying face down on the floor. She appeared to him to “be hurting or unconscious.” He called 911 at 8:22 am. It took him 12 minutes to call 911. In an emergency, 12 minutes is a long time to elapse. He has repeatedly said that he just thought something had gone wrong with the pregnancy, that perhaps she was dizzy and had fallen. In 12 minutes, did he not notice that there was brain matter about 5 feet away from her body?

Davey was asked if he called anyone else. He said that after he called 911, he called his dad.

Davey testified that he thought maybe something had gone wrong with Amanda’s pregnancy. She was about 12 weeks pregnant at the time. He said he did not know she had been shot until after he arrived at the hospital and was informed by doctors. He discussed going outside to wait for paramedics to arrive. Weston, the Blackburn’s baby, who was about a year and a half old at the time, was upstairs in his room. Davey had not gone to check on him yet when paramedics arrived. Davey observed that paramedics seemed to wonder why he had not gone to check on Weston yet.

EMT Scott Floyd testified that the blood on her head was clotted, leading him to believe that the gunshot to her head had happened “a while back,” probably “a couple of hours” prior. Davey said he left for the gym at about 6:10 am, 2 hours before he said he entered his home and found Amanda at 8:10 am. He called 911 at 8:22 am.

Defense attorneys did not cross examine Davey Blackburn.

As I stated in my recent post, Davey’s 911 call has still not been released. I have made several FOIA requests. IMPD has not responded to my request. Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has not responded to my request.

Davey’s 1,776 square foot home where Amanda was murdered was listed for sale on February 22, 2016. It sold for $145,000 on April 22, 2016. Before his old home sold, Davey purchased a new home under his business name NIW Serendipity LLC on March 2, 2016. Davey’s new home is 5,186 square feet with 5 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths, and a pool. He posted in July 2016 how happy he was hosting pool parties at his new home.

  1. WOW! Unbelievable that the defense attorney didn’t pushback against any of this!– especially the 2019 supposef start of NIW.This is a very concise summary doesn’t even include most of the other evidence. You should send this to dateline or 48 hours. Very troubling

  2. The defense attorney really had an obligation to ask Davey about the large insurance policy payout he received after Amanda’s death. Double indemnity and all.
